Many of us have found the introduction of air conditioning in our cars to be essential  for a comfortable journey in summer and when we go on holiday, we demand a comfortable room or appartment complete with air conditioning to relax in. Lots of us even work in air conditioned shops and offices, so that our employers can gain the most from us by providing comfortable working conditions. So why do we put up with hot and stuffy conditions in our homes?

Admittedly our climate can be somewhat unpredictable, but even on a warm, but sunny day conservatories and attic rooms can become very hot indeed. Air conditioning systems can work throughout the year, not only by cooling a hot space in summer, but also by heating a cold space in winter. 

In the past air conditioning have been noisy and expensive, but a whole new range of  units tailored to the domestic market from major companies such as Mitsubishi, Toshiba and Whirlpool have made air conditioning much more affordable and and quieter running. (During normal operation 21dBA.) Systems can also have the added benefit of filtering out allergens and bacteria from the air to improve the quality of the air. Good news for Hay fever sufferers!
